REVOLUSIS is a graphic novel in Bahasa Malaysia created for teenage girls, centred on empowerment, solidarity, and the realities young women face in society.
The story follows five teenage girls who are shocked to learn that their schoolmate has married an older man, left school, and is now pregnant. As they process this, they are also confronted with how normalised issues like sexual harassment have become—and begin to question and challenge these realities together.
Created by Knowledge and Rights with Young people through Safer Spaces (KRYSS), REVOLUSIS brings together a team of feminist writers and a graphic novel artist who collaborated to tell a powerful, youth-centered story. The first issue, “REVOLUSIS: Pencetusan,” was developed with support from the Embassy of Canada in Malaysia through EMPOWER.
What makes REVOLUSIS unique is its collective writing approach, offering a participatory way of creating stories that reflect real experiences. This makes it not just a graphic novel, but also a tool for awareness, advocacy, and conversations around gender and social norms.
Published by Gerak Budaya, the first issue was launched on 31 March 2018, followed by a second issue on 9 February 2020.
